Before I respond, let me give my definition of the term "troll" so it's
clear what I mean when I use that term:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_%28Internet%29
<quote>
a troll is a person who enters an established community such as an online
discussion forum and intentionally tries to cause disruption, often in the
form of posting messages that are inflammatory, insulting, incorrect,
inaccurate, or off-topic, with the intent of provoking a reaction from
others.
</quote>
So a troll is a person who posts to piss other people off. Note that
this does not necessarily imply that a troll posts lies. In fact, a
troll-post is probably most successful when it contains large amount of
truth to it, as it will less likely be dismissed by the established
community.
Now with that out of the way, Larry Qualig is, in my opinion, a troll.
That doesn't mean I disagree with the things he says -- a lot of what he
writes is true, it's just that he chooses to phrase the discussion in such a
way so as to piss people off, rather than to establish a civil discussion
about whatever issues are in disagreement.
So given that he's a troll, I don't bother trying to lecture him about
proper behaviour on the newsgroup. He won't listen. It's a lost cause.
Roy, on the other hand, is not a troll (IMHO, anyway). I think Roy
genuinely means well. Which is why I bother telling him when I disagree with
something he posts.
