To many people, this upgrade is a forced one (a sooner-or-later scenario).
The stocks of Windows XP are already being depleted artificially. There's
plenty of evidence to show this. To add insult to injury, a few weeks ago,
Microsoft raised its support price for Office by a whopping 50%. That is
/precisely/ why monopolies and lockins are a menace. Money gets funnelled to
Swiss bank accounts whilst ordinary people are lucky enough if their
computer/software purchase /and/ running costs (security is part of it)
permits them to make ends meet. To predatory companies with shareholder,
whatever people can afford will be demanded. Linux decentralises control of
software and Open Source/standards/protocols prevent lockins and enable data
to remain accessible 30 years down the line.
