The general synchronisation of calendars across linux machines and
phones is a critical issue at the moment, and has been for some time.
The synchml standards don't seem to be all that well supported, and the
ical/vcal stuff is equally mixed in capability.  I suspect that not
quite enough people want to do this to make it work well.  Of course, if
you're on Windows, then you're stuck with outlook, so life is 100 times
worse.
