Google uses Open Source for its operations, but the algorithms which often
determine validity or prominence of the world's infomation (now printer
literature is included, with the intent of having an 'iTune for books)
remain hidden. There's a certain danger when a company controls delivery of
information. Blake Ross said that Google has turned evil. It was a fortnight
ago when he discovered that Google advertises its own products in SERPs.
Google has changed that since, probably due to backlash. It has not,
however, backtracked on the censorship in China. In fact, 4 companies
including Google had a meeting last week... one which determines policies on
these matters... freedom of speech and all that./
