Wonderful mix of metaphors :-)

Open-source used to be characterised by "release early & release often"
as a kind of internal mantra.  This becomes problematic when you get
very large projects which are insufficiently modular for the release
cycles to be kept very short.

With projects the size of KDE, it's quite possible that it needs a full
re-write almost every release in order to maintain sufficient modularity
to enable individual components to follow a somewhat independent release
cycle, but that is a logical inconsistency :-)
