Interesting, but not a crash per se -- although most likely
it was stuck in a reboot loop, and therefore got captured
by someone's phonecam. It is also possible the kernel was
corrupted; LILO has the very bad habit of messing up if
someone updates the kernel without rerunning /sbin/lilo
afterwards; GRUB is much more forgiving.

Not entirely clear what's going on here, but it definitely
is a Linux problem of some sort, on an airliner's
entertainment control system.

Definitely an OOPS of some sort. (At a Linux rally, no less.)

Not sure what's happening here. The unit is prompting
for a text mode login, which probably means its GUI isn't
quite up yet ... or the GUI is misconfigured and will
never come up. The unit itself looks like a portable game
console with some odd sort of touchscreen keyboard -- a
precursor to the iPhone's, presumably.

http://www.dslinux.org/

exists and indicates that this is a project to port Linux
to the Nintendo DS gaming console; the device shown in
the webpage is identical to the given picture. Interesting,
for those who have such consoles (I do not, and hold little
hope for Linux being ported to the Atari 2600 :-) ).

3 out of 4, and the 4th one looks unfinished.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/milliped/116393699/

is the same photo as #2 above, and indicates that
this was an Air Algerie Airbus a330, with the
entertainment system visibly experiencing disk issues.
A reboot restored operation to some extent, apparently.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/aimaz/7517836/

is a spectacularly bad Linux crash, though a few days
later the mobo died completely so it was probably an
overheated chip (hardware problem, in other words).

It still counts.

http://www.miguelcarrasco.net/miguelcarrasco/2006/10/linux_crash_top.html

shows all of these.

On a slightly less serious note,

http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?t=260650

shows a rather public Linux crash -- the sponsored car, #77, was
the first to fall out of the 2007 Indianapolis 500 mile race.

So remember, kids and kidettes, buy Microsoft Windows
Vista for your embedded devices, desktops, and servers.
Not only will you make your devices more resistant to these
sort of crashes (since Microsoft crashes in a completely
different fashion), but your hardware vendor -- and your
sponsored race car driver, battery supplier, and electric
company -- will thank you.

:-)
