You need to do extensive testing before you try to do this.

Thats the reason for the ban to give them time to test before people just start upgrading and breaking apps.

But that speaks volumes in itself. Rather than being a no-brainer with regard to stability, compatibility, security, etc. it's become quite clear that Microsoft offerings are to be approached with a fairly low bar. Expect the worst.
