What is the big difference, in practical terms, between OSolaris, BSD and GNU
Linux? Many of them are designed and built similarly and contribute to the
same packages they share. The only one staying out of these party
(developmentfest) is Microsoft. Even Apple, Oracle, Google and many more
titans exploit a little bit here. Some give things in return. Think of this as
pooling of resources like telephone lines... or railroads... Microsoft has its
own 'special' set or rails that are difficult and too expensive to maintain.
It's just not sustainable, and it finally shows.

Apple's attitude towards Linux (ignoring it) exposes some of the company's
fears. Linux can ruin Apple's margins and so many people tend to forget that
Apple stands little chance in the not-so-wealthy world, which makes the
majority of the Net-connected PCs.
