I've very impressed by GNU tar. It streams backups to my external HDD at an
amazing pace of tens of magabytes per second.
When tools are built elegantly and are not tied to a GUI, then optimal
performance is achieved. No wonder Linux servers handle the load of several
equivalent Windows ones. No wonder Microsoft is so nervous about people
finding out the truth.
