That's the question of the day.
Unfortunately the answer is not clear, however Roy is making money off of
hits to his various hate sites. He even braggs about it on one of them.
This is one reason why he is interested in crap flooding messages as
opposed to a digest.

As for direct payment, I suspect it is related to Shuttleworth somehow.

For the record, I don't care who is paying Roy and honestly I don't care
that he IS being paid.
That is his business.
If he wants to whore himself for Linux that's fine however I draw the line
when he accuses others of the same thing, when he pretends to be doing all
of this for free, when he uses this and other fora to self promote and so
forth.

THAT is where the problem is.

When others are sincere Linux advocates just trying to help out and
advocate Linux and Roy is a paid shill in effect pretending to be like one
of the sincere people, it becomes a problem.

It's like being a lobbyist.
You have to register and publicly declare yourself a lobbyist.

Another thing, with Roy it's not just an article here and one there, it's
1000's a month and to every corner of the Internet on top of it.
It's the hate sites.
It's the rebuttals to magazine articles.
It's the petitions.

Roy Schestowitz for all practical purposes is a professional poster.

How can you or anyone else even fathom the thought that he is doing this
for free?
Consider the topics.
Consider the time required.

I suggest you try my experiment that was posted a few weeks ago.
Do it for one day and see what you come up with.

I suspect that if the obvious division between sides in this debate was
removed and people were simply asked a question like:

"Is Roy being paid to post"?

The yes votes would far outweigh the no votes.
Why?
People aren't stupid.
They can see what's going on but they won't ever admit it because it goes
against one of the tenants of Linux advocacy and that is never give the
other side ammo.

All of this will come out in good time.
I have a few tidbits but I prefer to check them out thoroughly before
making accusations.

One thing Roy Schestowitz fails to realize is that he has a knack for
pissing people off.
Even people who are close to him.
I've said too much already, but stay tuned.
