The problem began earlier than Vista (or the Longhorn "development
collapse"/"reboot", to use Microsoft's own description of it). Microsoft
suffered huge losses (18 billion, IIRC) when Gates stepped down as CEO.
Ballmer, being the envious crazed man that he is, burned money trying to be
the best of everything. How's the XBox 360 doing? Still 4th out of 4? Where
has the Zune gone? The press hasn't written about it in _months_.

It's worth looking ahead and identifying other Microsoft-like abuse. Intel, for
starters, with its endless corruption, briberies and bullying of charities,
deserves a good look.
