XML documents patented? Will these patent trolls be going after openoffice

One particular approach to using XML documents. When you think of the
flexibility and number of uses... the mind boggles. Imagine patents on
all of them - they may as well not bothered inventing XML at all!

Either way, Microsoft will have this overturned. It will not have become valid
for another 60 days.

It hopefully will lead to a rethink about the USPTO.


Hopefully. The saying "be careful what you wish for... you might get it" springs to mind. In one sense MS have painting a big ole target on their back with their pro patent lobbying.
