GoblinX Newsletter, Issue 226 (11/15/2009)

,----[ Quote ]
| Even though I do not adopt a roadmap I must
| say the next release will be tested only
| after KDE 4.4 is released and I finished
| the move to another project. In fact even
| the beta releases will have to wait this
| massive upgraded of the system. I also
| intend to wait until a new Linux Live is
| released in order to also upgrade the
| kernel. For now I invite you to test
| GoblinX or buy one of our cdroms and/or
| pendrives at On-disk.com.

NetworkManager in Mandriva

,----[ Quote ]
| If you are having problems with the
| Mandriva network configuration tools, you
| are welcome to try out NetworkManager and
| let me know your experience. However, keep
| in mind that this is totally unsupported in
| Mandriva and do not expect us to fix bugs
| you may encounter. It seems useful for me
| and so it may be for others, but your
| mileage may vary. But if you do not have
| any problem with the standard Mandriva
| configuration tools, do not bother to try
| this. Especially on desktop systems which
| are never moved, there does not seem to be
| any advantage in trying out NetworkManager.

GoblinX â An Alternative OS With 4 Different Flavors

,----[ Quote ]
| Other than those previously mentioned, very
| few if any other problems emerged while using
| GoblinX so far. In addition, KDE 4 on GoblinX
| performs rather well, even on a system with
| only 512 megabytes of RAM. Whereas GoblinX
| may not be âinstall and goâ to some standards,
| it gives the user the choice to use
| proprietary code other distros may take away.
| GoblinX is simply a nice distribution derived
| from a solid code base that offers the user
| even something better than choice â something
| different. And these days, anything different
| is good.

GoblinX 3.0 Has KDE 4

,----[ Quote ]
| Flavio Pereira de Oliveira announced today the third release
| of his popular Slackware-based Live CD Linux distribution,
| GoblinX, also known as G:Standard. GoblinX 3.0 used to have
| five desktop managers, but it appears that Flavio decided to
| keep only one, the K Desktop Environment. With the KDE4 on
| board, this distribution offers stability and good looks on a
| bootable Live CD ISO image.

GoblinX 3.0 GNOME Edition Has Support for Netbooks

,----[ Quote ]
| Flavio Pereira de Oliveira announced last night (September 8th) the 3rd
| release of his popular Slackware-based Live CD Linux distribution, GoblinX
| GNOME, also known as G:Noblin. This new, stable version brings GNOME 2.24
| as the default desktop environment and includes translations in many
| languages. But the most important feature in G:Noblin 3.0 is definitely the
| netbook interface, especially designed by the GoblinX team, based on Ubuntu
| Netbook Remix with some ideas from Foresight Linux.

| doubt about the releases and follow the same criteria used for all
| dsitributions (editions) of the GoblinX Project it became simply G:Standard.

Review: GoblinX 2.7

,----[ Quote ]
| GoblinX is a LiveCD distribution built around
| Slackware Linux, and designed for ease of use.
| The flexibility of GoblinX is worthy of mention,
| as even its boot options show this ability.
| But is GoblinX an angel in disguise, or a
| troll under the bridge? Let's find out.
|
| [...]
|
| Overall, GoblinX is a decent distribution,
| but not one I'd parade around as being all
| that great. It's got some nice extra toys,
| and plenty of applications to go around, but
| pound for pound against most other mainstream
| distributions, GoblinX gets its butt treed
| into the ground. It's nice that they're
| trying so hard to make a fully featured
| live cd distribution like they are, but
| they need to work out a bit more of the
| bugs before I can recommend it to anyone.
