A Great Present In The Linux 2.6.33 Kernel
,----[ Quote ]
| David Airlie has just called upon Linus
| Torvalds to pull in the latest DRM patches
| for inclusion into the Linux 2.6.33 kernel.
| The Direct Rendering Manager improvements in
| this next kernel release will be
| particularly interesting and are perhaps as
| significant as earlier kernels that had
| introduced kernel mode-setting support for
| Intel and ATI/AMD hardware along with in-
| kernel memory management. The changes that
| the Linux 2.6.33 kernel will bring are
| aplenty and will impact almost all of those
| using an open-source graphics driver stack.

VMware Goes For Mainline Inclusion Of Its DRM
,----[ Quote ]
| VMware is preparing to propose that its
| "vmwgfx" DRM kernel driver be pushed into
| the mainline DRM tree and in turn will then
| be pulled into the mainline Linux kernel --
| as soon as the Linux 2.6.33 kernel. VMware's
| Jakob Bornecrantz (formerly of Tungsten
| Graphics) is calling for comments on the two
| patches that introduce the vmwgfx C header
| file and then the Direct Rendering Manager
| code itself. This code will initially be put
| into the kernel's staging tree and then in a
| release or two should be found within the
| main DRM directory.

OpenCL Over Mesa, Gallium3D Discussion
,----[ Quote ]
| While NVIDIA and ATI/AMD have OpenCL support
| within their binary drivers, the open-source
| Mesa / Gallium3D stack is still lacking
| open-source support for the Open Computing
| Language on Linux. But the discussion
| surrounding OpenCL in Gallium3D has been
| renewed on the mailing list today.

Is a Linux JeOS on VMware's roadmap?
,----[ Quote ]
| VMware put the kibosh on rumors that it is
| developing a full-fledged Linux operating
| system. But, it may well be working on a
| streamlined Linux distribution for virtual
| appliances or, perhaps, to underpin VMware's
| recently acquired Spring framework. This would
| bring greater consistency to the look and feel
| of VMware applications and would be a Just
| enough Operating System (or JeOS).

VMware to launch own Linux distro?
,----[ Quote ]
| This is a pure rumour, sourced from random
| tweets. But it comes from Miguel de Icaza,
| founder of Gnome and Mono, so it has a certain
| investment of radiance.
|
| His first tweet:
|
| "VMware is creating a new Linux distro,
| according to the recruiting spam they are
| sending on Linked In."
