GNOME 2.29.4 released

,----[ Quote ]
| And here comes 2.29.4, just in time for the
| holiday season. It's a few hours late, but
| there were several build issues this time.
| But if you take all the right tarballs, this
| should now be okay :-) And you'll enjoy some
| cool stuff, like an updated nautilus with its
| changed focus (see discussion on nautilus-
| list), or various modules like gnome-control-
| center with tons of bug fixes. You can also
| take a look at gnome-keyring which has
| changed quite a bit internally... There are
| definitely many changes in there, so it's a
| good time to do some deep testing!

GnoMenu â A Customizable, Good-Looking Application Menu [Linux]

,----[ Quote ]
| GnoMenu is a very nice addition to your
| panel. Not only does it offer eye candy for
| your Linux desktop, it does so pretty well.
| You can use themes that use transparency even
| if you have compositing disabled or your
| computer just doesnât have the required
| juice. It can also be used with cairo dock,
| avant window navigator and xfapplet. The only
| downside that comes to the mind is that you
| cannot drag items to or from GnoMenu taking
| away some flexibility and intuitiveness.
| Other than that you can use it in place of
| the standard Application menu on your
| distribution any time.

GNOME and the GNU Project

,----[ Quote ]
| Do you remember the last controversy
| around Richard Stallman and Mono? Well,
| surprise surprise: the players are same!
| Imagine that! Quite the coincidence.
|
| It just so happens that the person calling
| for the vote is the same person that
| created the whole âI am not afraid of
| people writing codeâ slur-meme.
|
| It just so happens that the person
| seconding the call for the vote is the
| same person that crafted âopen lettersâ,
| published private correspondance and
| called for Stallman to be banned from
| speaking at future conferences.
|
| (The irony of calling for someone to be
| banned from speaking while later
| pretending outrage at that same person for
| calling into question how appropriate some
| topics are is quite delicious.)
|
| Again, read the posts to the mailing list
| and on the blogs. Stallman is calm and
| composed while being called a âfascistic
| extremistâ, and subjected to push polling.
| His critics as usual are condescending,
| twist his words, and resort to childish
| rhetoric at every opportunity.
|
| The beauty of the mailing list is that it
| is all laid out there for anyone to see.
