Gnome Gmail Tightly Integrates Gmail into Linux Desktops

,----[ Quote ]
| Linux (GNOME-based): There are work-arounds
| to set Gmail as a default mail app in Linux,
| but they don't cover right-click file sending
| and complex mail links. Gnome Gmail does a
| much better job of integrating Gmail.

Gnome Gmail made simple

,----[ Quote ]
| If youâre running the GNOME desktop
| environment and you want to make Googleâs
| Gmail your default mail handler, youâre
| going to need to specify a script to do the
| handoff. Gnome Gmail integrates Gmail into
| mail links and commands on your GNOME
| desktop. Once itâs in place, when you
| select a mailto URL, or select Send Linkâ
| from Firefox, Gnome Gmail opens a Gmail
| browser screen with a composed message,
| ready to send. Gnome Gmail also supports
| file attachments and the Nautilus file
| âSend Toââ command.

Gnome-Shell, I changed my mind

,----[ Quote ]
| What is nice about the gnome-shell concept,
| is the use of virtual desktops, I know they
| have always been there, but it makes it a
| natural intuitive task. Switching
| applications from one desktop to the other
| is a pleasure, that makes it easy to
| configure your desktops the way you want it
| quickly...

Gnome 3 Usability Hackfest

,----[ Quote ]
| As the GNOME 3.0 approaches, the GNOME
| Community is going to hold a Usability
| Hackfest in London from feb 22-26. Those
| who are not aware about the usability
| project, it aims to make GNOME appearance
| more efficient and pleasant to the users.
| In this hackfest, they are planning to work
| and improve the design and usability of
| some new GNOME 3.0 components.

GNOME Revamps and Renews Outreach Program for Women

,----[ Quote ]
| The approach? Think Google Summer of Code --
| complete with internships, mentors, and
| sponsors -- with an emphasis on team
| contributions rather than stand-alone
| projects.
|
| GNOME ran a similar outreach program in
| 2006, and received one hundred applications
| within two weeks. Because funds are (always)
| limited, great projects (and talent) had to
| be turned away -- but Google was so was
| impressed by the proposals, it funded three
| additional projects. The 2006 Women's
| Outreach Program had six participants, but
| organizers are tentatively planning on five
| participants this season.
