Interview with Thiago Macieira
,----[ Quote ]
| Hello, my name is Thiago Macieira,
| Brazilian, 28 and Iâm currently living in
| Oslo, Norway. I graduated with a double
| degree in Engineering in 2004 and I am also
| holding an MBA. I am now working for Qt
| Development Frameworks in Nokia and still
| somewhat involved in KDE activities (but
| not as much as I used to be).
|
| When did you first hear about KDE?
| Oh, sometime in 1998 or 1999. I donât
| remember exactly. I remember being on IRC
| somewhere and someone pointed me to
| www.kde.org, which had that picture of a
| computer and was asking if Unix was ready
| for the desktop. I remember thinking,
| âyeah, right, this project will never be
| successfulâ.

Delicious Transblurency [1]

| The âfocusâ word has many meanings, ranging
| from the optical concept of âgood
| convergence of light rays generated by an
| objectâ to the cognitive process of
| directing the attention to a particular
| target while ignoring other targets.
| Now the interesting part: this concept can
| be used in computers too, especially in
| user interfaces, to direct the user to
| relevant information or to help him through
| a step-by-step process. How to do that?
| Since every image you see on screen is âon
| focusâ by default, you can easily unfocus
| unuseful information.

Five Improvements for KDE 4.5 (Part 2)
,----[ Quote ]
| In my opinion, the KDE4 desktop is the most
| revolutionary piece of Linux software since
| the Linux kernel itself, and I appreciate how
| it strives to challenge old desktop paradigms
| and introduce new ones.

Five Improvements for KDE 4.5 (Part 1)

| 4.) Easier Theme Installation
| Another issue I had with KDE (even with the
| KDE3.x series) is that themes are so easy to
| install in GNOME, but a pain in KDE. While
| installing new themes is still easiest to do
| in GNOME (download, drag, and drop) KDE SC 4.4
| has made strides in this area, finally. It can
| only get better from here.
|
| [...]
|
| So, there you have it. Those are
| features/changes I wished for during previous
| KDE releases that have all materialized into
| reality. With such progress, itâs clear that
| KDE is moving at the speed of light, and I
| predict KDE SC 4.5 will be the height of the
| KDE4 series. What am I hoping for in that
| release? Stay tuned next week to find out, and
| be ready to share your ideas so we can help
| make KDE the best it can be.
