Mine was boxed but you *can* pick and choose at install time however
it is very tedious to wade through the seemingly hundreds of
options.

Pretty much a good description.

I've never had it installed long enough to need support. Current
versions that is. The last good version was 5.5.10 I believe.

Very true not to mention it wreaks havoc with other programs.

Sadly it sounds like that is exactly what they are moving towards.
Personally I have mixed opinions about specific tools for the job
vs all in one packages, but in any case, Nero is way over the top.
