If you were using linux & slrn, two rules would fix the problem. Since
you're using something less capable, I don't know what you can do about
it.
If what you use is able, you could raise the score of everything with
"Re: [NEWS]" and score down everything with "[NEWS]" by itself. That
way you'd get just the replies. You'd miss anything original that you
might find interesting, but the only way around that would be to accept
everything.
I somehow don't think that level of scoring is possible, though, with
40tude whatever. I used it once for a few days, and it didn't impress
me as capable of more than simple filtering.
