Very Strong Start for September

September is a time to learn

Go September!

What a start. So I’ve managed to publish a lot today, get some rest, get exercise done, make some good food.

I’ve long planned to take it up a notch on September 1st and there’s no disappointment. The faster pace is maintainable too. I can’t see why not…

Despite bullying (the bullies think the person they bully is not entitled to holidays) I’ve had good rest, did a lot of housekeeping, and now I feel ready to rock until Xmas Eve.

“Give me a country where I can be free”

From 10cc:

“DDoS” is a Very Broad Term

To each its own

Getting a solution to DDoS attacks is not easy because each time the pattern to tackle (without false positives) is a bit different and each incident can be unprecedented in one single site, so there’s no one-size-fits-all solution.

At the moment we combat another wave of nuisance bots and each time it comes there’s risk that everyone will be “away from keyboard” and therefore it won’t be detected.

September Data and GNU/Linux

“Summer of the Linux desktop”

Growth of GNU/Linux has accelerated this summer and tomorrow at around 10AM statCounter will produce more evidence of that.

I plan to stay home around that time to check the latest data. I also to examine trends in Cloudflare Rader.

Cool Start for EnzoFC

Credit where due

seamless-cool-pattern

Seamless winning streaks are very rare for a new coach, but Enzo does this with Manchester City. This Football Club (FC) gave him 2 years to prove himself and after 2 matches he is at the top of the league. Impressive!

Well done, EnzoFC.

Worthless Traffic

How to measure impact

What is “worthless traffic”?

Suppose you’re a girl and you upload bathing suit photos. I need to chose this gender for analogy’s sake (as will become apparent later).

Upload photos.

To Facebook.

To Instagram.

Whatever.

You get many “likes” for it.

So f—ing what?

Who cares?

Will you look back, in your deathbed, recalling how many “likes” you received for a photo that is not artistic?

“Momma would be so proud of these likes!”

If you wanted more “likes”, you could expose a nipple or two.

Does that make it a great accomplishment? No.

Because it’s already erotica.

Few people would conflates accomplishment with some people lusting based on indecency.

There are male versions of the same (but different metaphor needed).

In social control media, you see people who can get a lot of “likes” for calling people insulting stuff, for using foul language and riling up a mob.

What sort of accomplishment is that?

Worthless traffic is like the above “likes”.

If you want a lot of traffic, you can published mindless garbage for “the masses”.

Quantifying things in “likes” and “traffic” is a mirage.

Ask more about “quality” or “relevance”; that takes actual work.
