Susan of Tux Machines

still remember how, about a month before Tux Machines turned 15, we invited Susan (from the US) to join us. She politely declined only because of the distance but tactfully expressed gratitude.

Today I saw Susan’s name mentioned [1, 2], so despite her retiring from writing she is still remembered, appreciated, and loved.

Today we cooked some food with a lot of vegetables and I published a lot of new articles. Some of them were short, some very long.

I’m just glad that we have a good flow of EPO-related articles. Our coverage of EPO affairs is historically important or of historic value.

Some time soon we’ll start several new series.

We’ve generally found that publishing things in a series-like form works best because people cannot absorb a lot of information in a single day.

They should know better than that; it insults the customers

find myself having to talk to a person every year or so (usually 2 years) regarding energy bills at E.ON, aka E.ON Next. This year they have a chatbot with voice. If you say “speak to a person” like 10 times you get to an actual person. It’s not easy, but still feasible.

Once I spoke to an actual person everything was very nice, smooth, and both sides were happy.

The freephone number is appreciated, though the clients pay for it as part of their bills.

He has just taken on the UK Racist Party ‘head-on’ [1, 2, 3] and we wish him success. He did win in the past. He beat Big Blue (IBM).

No actual verdict, just hypothetical

n this month one year ago I published “The Mind of the ‘Hulk Hogan of UEFI’” after a long run in the nearby park and after feeding 100+ birds (some jumped on me as they were really voracious). One part of it aged well and still resonates: “Garrett would ask/invite a Microsoft/GitHub/GNOME/Mono ally (whom he knows and spoke about for years) to file another lawsuit from the US, using the exact same legal team, because merely reporting that someone strangled women is the real issue? The reporting was done 3-4 years earlier, i.e. out of time for any libel claim.”

That someone decided to sue me for mentioning physical abuse of women does (to this date) make me proud. I invite more men to sue me for talking about crimes against women.

Old is not bad

wrote many cards to Rianne this week. They are not digital, they’re physical cards and there’s no scan or digital copies of these. They can last a century, i.e. more than a lifetime.

The health of our relationship is built around mutual trust and respect. As usual, and as noted before, Rianne and I plan to pursue an appeal in our case next year in the UK Court of Appeal.

In courtrooms we always use physical notebooks and pens, not laptops. It has served us well.
